McLaren hasn’t won since the Dutch Grand Prix, but the Woking team achieved an important result in Singapore: they secured their tenth Constructors’ Championship title with seven races to go. It’s a historic achievement, so it’s right to analyze the triumph before addressing the issues.
“I’m happy, happy, happy. Already last year, it seemed incredible to become World Champions in the Constructors’ Championship, considering that our journey is still relatively young and recent”, said Andrea Stella, “this year, the feeling is even more incredible, I’d say, because we managed to confirm our status with real determination, especially considering there are still six races left.”
How do you explain that McLaren didn’t dominate as expected?
“We would have liked to celebrate with a win, but it wasn’t possible. We have to acknowledge that there are some very strong competitors right now, but that makes Formula 1 all the more spectacular. We hope to return to winning soon.”
The race was marked by contact between Norris and Piastri on the first lap.
“I like determined drivers who clearly express their position. We also need to keep in mind that their point of view must be considered in the context of the situation. It’s the perspective of a driver from inside the cockpit—they see what they see. He saw Lando coming at him and formed a certain opinion. Of course, all of this happened in the intense moment that is the start of a Formula 1 race.”
Is it a two-way fight between the McLaren drivers?
“Verstappen, of course, is still definitely in the fight.”
