Deep Red. “It will take a miracle to do well,” Charles Leclerc had warned on Friday at Zandvoort. On Sunday, that miracle turned into a nightmare for the Maranello team, with both Ferraris out of the race. Hamilton made a mistake, and Leclerc was taken out after contact from Kimi Antonelli. But the dark Sunday in the Netherlands didn’t end there. Hamilton was penalized for not slowing down under yellow flags and for speeding in the pit lane. The result? A five-place grid penalty at Monza.

“I felt comfortable in the car and the pace was promising, but unfortunately I lost the rear under braking at Turn 3. It was a sudden slide, and with the damp paint on the outside, I couldn’t avoid the wall. It’s disappointing, but there are still many positives to take from this weekend, and the team worked really hard. I want to apologize to everyone on the team, both at the track and back home, and to the fans. We were hoping to score more points,” said Hamilton after his Dutch GP ended after just 23 laps.

Later in the evening, another blow hit Ferrari, adding to the frustration of the Dutch Grand Prix. Hamilton received a five-place grid penalty for the next race: the Italian GP at Monza — Ferrari’s home race.
