The hectic Las Vegas night was a roller coaster of emotions. The disqualification of the McLarens in the Las Vegas GP completely changes the outlook on the Formula 1 World Championship battle. With Verstappen’s victory and the points taken away from Piastri and Norris, the standings tighten considerably with two races still to go and Verstappen now just 24 points from the top.

The new standings — Due to the disqualification, Norris and Piastri (second and fourth at the end of the GP) lose 18 and 12 points respectively in a race where Verstappen instead scored maximum points. The Dutchman is now 24 points behind Norris (366 versus 390) and level on points with Piastri. The latter, however, paradoxically “gains” relative to his teammate thanks to the disqualification, since with the original GP result he had slipped to -30. Norris still has enough margin to win the championship without needing to worry about others’ results, but his advantage over Verstappen and his teammate is now slimmer. And having the world champion so close in the final stages of the season is unlikely to let him sleep soundly.

Regarding Ferrari, the hopes for second position in the championship are now really fragile.
