“These cars are so fast that it’s like a subconscious driving. There is no time to think”, McLaren Team Principal brings us behind the scene of the F1 circus with interesting insights regarding the drivers of the Papaya Team. “The championship is so tight and the level of the competition so high that every thousands of a second counts”.
Reganding the car, Andrea Stella confesses: “Mclaren is fast but not the easiest car of the grid to drive. It requires a bit of adaptation from the drivers”.
In Imola Oscar Piastri was the fastest driver on Friday, he scored he pole position on Saturday and he will take the start of the Emila Romagna GP from the first spot on the grid.
Asked about the Aussie’s learning curve, Stella stated: This year Oscar has improved three things:
Firstly the speed. Look at this raceweeknd: he has been the fastest sofar. Oscar has improved the pure speed, and secondly the capability to work with the engineers.
Another strong point is his skill to remain cool and focused. In hectic situation as in the final lap Q3 in Imola, there were three cars to pass and it was easy to get distracted but he remained focused.
On the race day, Piastri is called to resist to the attacks from Max Verstappen, who will start from front row, George Russel and Lansdo Norris kicking off from the second row.
