The news is sensational and it is not a rumour:  Montezemolo is the new Director of McLaren Holding. However, it’s important to clarify that his new role will have nothing to do with Formula 1. Montezemolo is, in fact, joining the board of McLaren Automotive, but he will not have any direct involvement in the racing operations. He has been appointed as one of the directors of McLaren Group Holdings Limited.

“It’s all true, but let me clarify something: I’m joining the Board of McLaren, but not the GP team, not the F1 team. I’ll be working with the GT and road car division, which is controlled by friends from Abu Dhabi. Whereas the team of Piastri and Norris is owned by people from Bahrain.”

That’s how Luca Cordero di Montezemolo explained his new position. Despite that the news is explosive. The man behind Ferrari’s glory days, Enzo Ferrari’s sporting director, and the president during the Schumacher era, is now… switching to the competition. “But Imy heart will always beat for the Red”.
